INTRODUCTORY REMARKS BY THE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

Dear colleagues! The launch of the first issue of the *Nizhny Novgorod Psychological Journal* is an exciting and landmark event for us. It is exciting because any new beginning demands immense responsibility, effort, and faith in success. It is a landmark event because we are opening a new chapter in the history—not only of our university’s research activities but also of the entire academic psychological community in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

The idea of establishing our own peer-reviewed scientific journal at the Lobachevsky National Research Nizhny Novgorod State University had been taking shape for years. This initiative was driven by the rich traditions of the Nizhny Novgorod school of psychology, which called for a modern, recognized, and prestigious platform for scholarly discourse. Today, thanks to the support of the Lobachevsky University leadership and our collective initiative, this idea has become a reality. The media registration certificate (No. FS77-91814, dated June 17, 2026) marks the official start of our shared journey.

The *Nizhny Novgorod Psychological Journal* positions itself as an electronic publication with a quarterly release schedule; this allows us to respond promptly to the dynamics of modern science, remain accessible to a wide range of researchers, and ensure the rapid dissemination of new knowledge.

Our focus encompasses the broadest spectrum of psychological science. The journal welcomes fundamental and applied research across key areas—ranging from general psychology and psychophysiology to work psychology, medical psychology, and developmental psychology. We aim to support both classical empirical and experimental studies and interdisciplinary projects that address contemporary challenges.

I would particularly like to emphasize that we established this journal in close collaboration with the dissertation council at Lobachevsky University (UNN) for the scientific specialty 5.3.7 "Developmental Psychology" and—in the very near future—for specialty 5.3.3 "Work Psychology, Engineering Psychology, and Cognitive Ergonomics." The launch of the journal provides postgraduate students and degree candidates with the opportunity to promptly publish their research findings in a peer-reviewed publication. At the same time, we fully recognize that inclusion in the VAK (Higher Attestation Commission) list of peer-reviewed scientific publications is not a status granted in advance, but the result of rigorous and consistent effort. For this reason, the *Nizhny Novgorod Psychological Journal* maintains the highest standards regarding the scientific content, methodological rigor, and theoretical novelty of the materials it publishes.

The mission of the editorial board and reviewers goes beyond merely publishing scientific texts; it involves fostering a high culture of psychological research, supporting early-career scientists, and providing a platform for established experts. Consequently, scientific rigor, fairness in the peer-review process, and openness to discussion and new ideas are defining characteristics.

We invite both established scholars and aspiring researchers to collaborate with us. We are confident that the journal will serve as a prestigious platform for seasoned researchers with valuable insights to share with the professional community, while simultaneously acting as a reliable foundation for those just beginning their journey into the world of academic science.

The inaugural issue of the *Nizhny Novgorod Psychological Journal* is structured as a dialogue between the past and the present, highlighting the continuity of generations within the field of psychology. Fittingly, this issue opens with a historical article by Natalia Yuryevna Stoyukhina, dedicated to the first psychology instructors at Nizhny Novgorod State University. They represent our heritage and our pride—the very foundation upon which the modern edifice of scientific psychology is built.

Dear friends, this first issue marks the beginning of a significant journey. I invite everyone who cares about the future of psychology in Russia to join us in this endeavor. Please submit your manuscripts, share your thoughts, and engage in the conversation. Together, we will make the *Nizhny Novgorod Psychological Journal* one of the country’s leading academic publications.

We are confident that the *Nizhny Novgorod Psychological Journal* website (https://npj.unn.ru) will become more than just an archive of publications; it will serve as a vibrant space for professional interaction.
